Technical anodizing

For the best possible bond

Technical anodizing, also known as sulfuric acid anodizing or eloxing, is the electrochemical conversion of aluminum into aluminum oxide, providing optimal adhesion. This oxide layer forms partially on the surface and partially grows into the base material. The anodized layer is much harder than the base material, minimizing the risk of surface damage and significantly improving wear resistance compared to bare aluminum. During the treatment, a large number of fine pores develop in the oxide layer. These pores are typically sealed after anodizing, resulting in excellent corrosion resistance. As a guideline for dimensional changes caused by sulfuric acid anodizing, a build-up/penetration ratio of approximately 1/3 – 2/3 of the applied layer thickness can be expected.

Capabilities:

  • Anodizing is usually performed with dimensional stability, keeping changes minimal.
  • Masking of holes and surfaces for anodizing is possible.
  • The anodized layer can be colored.
  • Combination with Surlon®KE is possible to achieve a non-stick, wear-resistant, and self-lubricating surface, significantly reducing the friction coefficient.

Applications are primarily in automotive, machinery, electrical engineering, copier equipment, and aerospace industries.

Properties:

  • Good corrosion resistance
  • Increased surface hardness
  • Improved wear resistance
  • Enhanced resistance to aggressive substances
  • Good insulating properties
  • Preserves decorative finishes such as blasting or brushing

Standard specifications:
MIL-PRF-8625, Type II; Class 1 (uncolored) and Class 2 (colored)

  • Recommended layer thickness: 5–25 µm, depending on the chosen alloy
  • Technical anodizing layers are typically sealed

We work exclusively according to strict standards. This process at our Netherlands facility is certified by NADCAP and various OEMs.
